Abandonment of Employment Process
This document outlines the process for employers to follow when they suspect their employee may have abandoned their employment. This would follow an unexplained absence of a day or more.
Employers are required to follow a specific process to determine if employment has been abandoned and full adherence to that process is recommended for compliance.
Employers are required to have current contact details for all employees on file at all times and this process is one of the reasons for that.
Use this process and the related documents to establish if employment has been abandoned – and remember to always act in good faith and be a reasonable employer.
You may also wish to look into disciplinary processes if the employee has not abandoned his or her employment.
