Your company culture is determined by the way your employees behave, and you as the employer do have a right to have ownership of it. When a new employee starts working in your business, unless you tell him or her specifically what type of conduct you are expecting, he or she will be unaware. Being clear about what you are expecting from your employees is the basis of all good HR Management and company culture development, yet so many employers fail to do this. The Employee Code of Conduct outlines the expected behaviour in your work place, giving guidance and clarity to your employees. The code of conduct also gives you as the employer documented expectations for your staff – this ensures everyone knows what is acceptable in your business with no excuses! You should go through the document together with your new employee, and discuss any questions that he or she may have.
