Certificate of Employment Service

Use the Employment Certificate of Service Completed Template to outline the employment details of an employee when they leave your business.

The Certificate of Service is useful when an employer prefers not to give a verbal reference for the employee but is asked for formal confirmation of the employment dates and role fulfilled.

When you agree to provide a verbal reference for an employee, you are agreeing to say positive things about the person to any employer calling you for the reference. However, you are not obliged to be a referee if you do not feel comfortable doing so. In this instance, you can provide the employee with a Certificate of Service confirming state and finish dates with your company.

The employee has a right to formal confirmation of the time he or she was employed by your business and the position that was held but does not have a right to a verbal reference.
