Abandonment of Employment

Where an employee has failed to attend work for three consecutive days without notifying a manager or supervisor, they will have deemed to have terminated their employment.

Three consecutive days can include days over the weekend (for example Thursday, Friday & Monday)

It is important to have a clear policy detailing what is deemed to be abandonment, and that the employer has made an effort to contact the employee to ensure nothing has happened to them.

Employers should be very careful to remain compliant in all dealings with employees regarding termination.
